We're very pleased to announce that the pro who really
knows motors and what makes them work, will help us kick
off our first all-day open house by broadcasting his radio
show live here in Northridge on Sunday morning, November
14, said GJM spokesperson Mark Garrett.
"Our friend Leon Kaplan has been a fixture on
Los Angeles radio and television for almost 30 years
now," Garrett explained. The 'Motorman' as he's
known, is a living legend in both the automotive and
radio business, 'fixing cars on the radio' and
giving spot-on advice about everything engine-wise from just
getting it running to making it into the fastest powerplant
on your block. 'Leon really is a legend,'" Garrett
explained.
"Many of our customers have grown up listening
to him, they understand the kind of hero status that he
has among motorists all over the country. We know that
having him here at our engine development facility will
be a lot of fun for his fans, but, as his weekly show on
KABC790 always proves, his knowledge of 'all things
motorized' will be also be hard at work really helping people with
questions about their cars, boats, airplanes even their
lawnmowers!"
Garrett-Jacobson is relatively new as a name in
the high-performance engine field having opened for
business only a few months ago in Northridge. The name is
new, as is the incredible inventory of state-of-the-art
engine building and testing equipment. But the
personnel are a seasoned group of top professionals, each with
their own long list of performance-proven credentials.
Lead by well-known designer/builder Gregg
Jacobson, each brings a high level of expertise and long
experience to the art and science of precision engine building.
"Our staff of engineers, machinists, and builders
represents our strong commitment to the task at hand," said
Jacobson. "This business only succeeds under
the most extreme challenges there are in motorsports,
we're only as good as our end product and that has to be
way better than just 'good'."
The three-hour (8AM - 11AM) live remote radio
broadcast (KABC 790) will feature listener calls and
introduce a number of special on-site and on-line guests.
And, as he does every day of the year (on-air or not) Leon
will take in-person motoring questions from fans.
Following the broadcast, the festivities will
continue on in high gear with a high performance car show,
shop tours, dyno pulls, refreshments, and special guest
appearances until 'at least' 3PM.
Lancer Automotive, now run by Leon's son, Lance,
has been a Los Angeles bastion of honest automotive service
for well over 40 years. Located at 8151 West 3rd Street
on the near west side of Los Angeles, the tidy shop is
always busy and Kaplan is (almost) always there (except when
he's flying his airplane or running his high-powered
Hallett around Lake Arrowhead). A true and trusted LA
institution: Both the man as well as the shop that
he built.
Garrett-Jacobson Motorsports/Marine is located in
